Types of Water Distillers
There are two different types of water distillers that is important to know before you choose one for your home. Deciding on how much distilled water you need should be done first and knowing the difference between the two types will aid you in making that decision.
The main difference between the two types of water distillers is the user participation. With manual water distillers, you are required to replace the water in the water tank after about a gallon has been distilled. These are cheaper units but require a little bit more on your part. For people who do not plan to distill a ton of it, manual distillers work just fine.
For those who have no plans of refilling their distiller everytime it goes through a gallon, automatic distillers are for you. Using electrical detection systems, these distillers produce pure water for as long as the device is on unless the tank has reached a certain level. Once it does, it stops distilling until the level is lowered.
What Should I Look for in a Distiller?
If you’ve never shopped for this type of appliance before, your head might be swirling with all the different available features. Here’s what to keep an eye out for when looking at home distillation systems and why.
The average distiller can provide you with up to six gallons of H2O a day. Each gallon takes around four hours to produce so in order to obtain this much purified H2O, your machine would need to be running 24 hours a day.
You’ll need to crunch some numbers and determine how much H2O your family goes through during a day. To make sure your distiller isn’t causing you stress, make sure you purchase one with enough power to produce at least, if not more, of your daily needs.

For the majority of consumers, this will still add up to money saved as the price of a store-bought gallon of H20 can be downright insulting.
How Do I Keep My Distiller Functioning Properly?
Let’s talk maintenance for a second. Your distiller machine will be doing a lot of heavy lifting for you. It’s going to need a little help from time to time to make sure it’s operating at its full potential.
