Filtered Water VS Tap Water VS Bottled Water – the safe, bad, and Good

Both filtered and tap water is popular within households. Tap water is supplied through underground pipes. It is controlled and treated by the government to meet drinking water standards. Filtered water is tap water that has been additionally filtered and cleaned. It can be cleaned with a home water filter and distiller appliances using different filtration techniques. Both types of water are considered safe to drink, to cook with, and other purposes. However, filtered water is a safer and cleaner option.

Carbon and charcoal are the most common types of filter and work by attracting and keeping toxic chemicals and minerals out of the water. It is a natural way of water filtration, and it will get rid of a number of contaminants harmful to health, such as chemicals and chlorine. However, it will not filter out all of types of contaminants, including fluoride.

Aeration

This type of filtration removes hydrogen sulfide and iron from the water. Air is a strong oxidizer and forces the entering water to pass through high-pressure air jets. Some contaminants become gases and then evaporate into water. Aeration cannot remove some of the contaminants such as mercury or viruses.

Cation Exchange

This method can remove up to 96% of contaminants in water. This approach uses positively charged particles to attract negatively charged ions. These are barium, magnesium, and calcium. These contaminants attach to the beads in the filter. Meanwhile, hydroxide and hydrogen are released into the water. Combined, these two ions produce H2O.

Distillation

Distillation works by boiling water until it vaporizes. Then, the steam is allowed to cool down and returns to a liquid form. The result is clean and purified water, 99% free of any contaminants, viruses, metals, and chemicals.

Reverse Osmosis

This method converts seawater into drinking water by removing salt and other contaminants. It uses pressure to force the water through a semipermeable membrane and removes toxins.

UV Disinfection

This process removes bacteria, parasites and viruses from the water by using ultraviolet light. It does not remove chemicals and metals.

Conclusion

Although tap water is controlled by the government and is acceptable for cooking, baking, bathing, it still contains harmful contaminants. Fluoride, chlorine, sodium, magnesium, and different types of microbes are still present in the water supply despite regulations. These elements can cause allergic reactions, certain types of cancer, kidney stones, diabetes, and other diseases.

Tap water is especially not recommended for children, as their immune systems are still developing and such contaminants can cause serious health risks. To avoid being exposed to toxins, the water should be filtered by using either activated charcoal and carbon method, aeration, distillation, cation exchange, reverse osmosis, or UV dysfunction.Some of these filtration methods are more effective than others.

The type of filtration depends on what the person is looking for, as some of methods only remove particular types of contaminants from the water. Filtration of tap water reduces the chances of having health problems.
